I would like to again welcome you to Pleasantville Elementary School and to my classroom, Room 30. This will be a very busy and exciting school year for your kindergartener. They will be learning lots of new things and will be involved in many fun activities.
I am planning a developmentally sound literacy program for my students in room 30. Everyday, your child will be learning by:
· Reading books, poems, and other writings, and singing songs.
· Listening to quality children’s literature, teacher-directed lessons, and ideas
generated by classroom discussions.
· Sharing written stories and thoughts.
· Speaking in large and small groups.
Each of these areas strengthen the other! The more your child becomes involved in reading, listening, writing, and speaking, the more confidence and competence he or she will develop. Science, social studies, math, and language arts are all integrated so that instruction is in line with how your child naturally learns.
You can do several things at home to support your child’s learning. The most important thing you can do is read to your child every day, even after they can read independently. Also, encourage your child to write using inventive spelling. Lastly, celebrate your child’s efforts! You will be amazed at the growth your child will achieve this year.
